Paul Newman Joins Panel Discussion
October 22, 2004
The Fitzwater Center for Communication at Franklin Pierce University
is dedicated to fostering the robust debate that is essential
to a healthy democracy. We invited the presidential campaigns to bring that
debate to campus. We are pleased to announce that the first in a series of
election year presentations and appearances took place this Friday at the
Manchester campus. The event was comprised of a screening of "Going
Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry," followed by a discussion panel
featuring Director George Butler, former Congressman Pete McCloskey, Columnist
Thomas Oliphant and
Philanthropist and Actor Paul Newman.

A young Kerry is depicted in new film.

Film director, George Butler.

Former Congressman, Pete McCloskey, R., CA shares his experiences.

Dr. Zrzavy contributes to the discussion.

Boston Globe columnist Thomas Oliphant answers.

Paul Newman listens.

Ray Van der Riet considers the opinions.

Audience participation is strong.

Of course, everyone, including Marabeth Farmer, wants to meet Paul Newman.

Cathy Underwood controls herself.

Mr. Newman shows he doesn't need three hands to give an autograph to Jean
Blacketor.

Good photo opps.

Trying to get all four members of the panel together is difficult...

...as there is never a dull moment.

And the list of "Leaders of Conscience" keeps growing.
