Saint Rose Runs

– The Franklin Pierce softball team suffered a pair of losses to the
College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action this
afternoon at the Franklin Pierce softball field. The Ravens fell 1-0
in game one before being edged Saint Rose 1, Franklin Pierce 0
Freshman Amanda Morano (Highland, N.Y./Highland) led the Saint Rose offensively in game one, hitting 2-3 with two singles, while sophomore Kerry Monahan (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) went 2-3 with one run scored. Junior Jessica Pastore (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) collected a double to aid the Golden Knights while senior Dana Herchenroder (Voorheesville, N.Y./Voorheesville) collected one RBI. Senior Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) registered Franklin Pierce’s only hits of the contest, hitting 2-3 with two singles. Saint Rose registered the lone run of the game in the top half of the fourth inning. Monahan led off the inning with a single to centerfield and advanced to second on a passed ball. After a wild pitch put Monahan on third, Herchenroder connected for a sacrifice fly to leftfield to drive in the Golden Knight run. Sophomore Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) suffered the loss for Franklin Pierce (6-13). The veteran hurler tossed seven innings, yielding one run (none earned) on seven hits, while striking out seven. Junior Kristen Calahan (LaGrange, N.Y./Arlington) earned the win for Saint Rose, tossing a complete game two-hitter with nine strikeouts. Saint Rose 7, Franklin Pierce 5
Junior Samantha Harrington (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) led the Saint Rose attack in game two, hitting 2-5 with a double and three RBI. Jessica Pastore was also solid with a 3-4 performance, including a triple and three runs scored, while senior Evelyn Peters (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) hit 2-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Junior Kate Surgen (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) was strong for Franklin Pierce, hitting 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Sophomore Jackie Prybella (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) was also solid with a 1-3 performance, including a double and three RBI, while junior Nicole Leary (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) went 1-2 with two runs scored. Saint Rose jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after three innings of play. The Golden Knights opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, notching two runs on one hit and two errors. In the second inning, Saint Rose continued its momentum with a three run rally, capped by a Harrington double to centerfield that drove in two. The Golden Knights added two more runs in the top of the third inning as Herchenroder registered an RBI double. Franklin Pierce battled back in the bottom of the fifth inning has Prybella laced an RBI tripe to right centerfield, driving in three. In the sixth frame, the Ravens notched two more runs as Jacobs belted an RBI double and Surgen connected for an RBI single. In the seventh inning, Saint Rose plated one run on an RBI single by Peters to secure the victory. Sophomore Nicole Welch (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) picked up the win for the Golden Knights, allowing five runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work. Calahan collected her first save of the season with 1.2 innings of shutout relief. Junior Becky Aalto (Hubbardston, Mass./Gardner) suffered the loss for Franklin Pierce, yielding eight runs (three earned) on 15 hits over seven innings of work. Franklin Pierce (8-24, 5-17 NE-10) will be in action again on tomorrow as it travels to Bentley College at 3 p.m. Saint Rose (11-16, 6-11 NE-10) will host Pace University tomorrow at 3 p.m. |
