Franklin Pierce Sweeps Twinbill With Pace
Ravens blank Setters 1-0 in game one; earn 8-1 victory in game two 

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (April 21, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce softball team collected a season-sweep over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at Pace Field. The Ravens blanked the Setters 1-0 in game one before earning a 8-1 victory in game two.

Sophomore pitcher Courtney Jacobs collected her sixth victory of the season, tossing a complete game three hitter.

Senior captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) led the Franklin Pierce offensive attack in game one, hitting 1-3 with a homerun (1), one run scored and one RBI. Freshman Kylie Molinari (Meriden, Conn./Maloney) went 1-3 with a double, while sophomores Jackie Prybella (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) chipped in with one hit apiece.

Junior Dana Jo Ketchel (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) led Pace offensively with a 1-3 performance, including a double, while sophomore Tricia Alluto (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) and senior Julia Hunt (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) registered one hit apiece.

Courtney Jacobs earned the victory for Franklin Pierce, improving to 6-8 this season. The sophomore hurler tossed a complete game shutout, yielding only three hits, while striking out three. Sophomore Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) suffered the loss in the circle for the Setters, allowing only one earn run and four hits over seven innings of work.

Senior captain Michelle McConnell was a combined 3-7 with a homerun and two RBI in today's doubleheader.

In game two, Franklin Pierce junior Nicole Leary (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) was solid, hitting 2-4 with a homerun (1), two runs scored and one RBI. Michelle McConnell was also strong, going 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI, while sophomore Elaine Matthews (Roslindale, Mass./Archbishop Williams) added two base-hits. Freshman Jenna Hunt () registered one hit, one run scored and one RBI, while Jackie Prybella chipped in with a double, one run scored and one RBI.

Sophomore Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) led Pace offensively in game two, hitting 1-3 with one run scored, while Dana Jo Ketchel registered one hit and one RBI. Freshman Amanda Dague (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins) chipped in with one base-hit.

Franklin Pierce jumped out to an early 1-0 lead  in the opening inning, pushing across an unearned run, but Pace responded in the bottom half of the inning as Ketchel drove in Pane (single) with an RBI single. The Ravens regained the lead in the top half of the second, as Leary connected for her first homerun of the season.

After three scoreless innings, Franklin Pierce broke the scoring silence with four runs in the top of the sixth. Junior captain Kate Surgen (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) led the Raven rally with an RBI single that drove in two, while Prybella notched an RBI double.

Franklin Pierce added three more runs in the seventh to collect the sweep. Hunt recorded an RBI double in the seventh inning scoring rally, while McConnell and Matthews chipped in with one single each.

Junior Becky Aalto (Hubbardston, Mass./Gardner) earned the victory for Franklin Pierce, yielding one earned run on three hits in the complete game effort (1-7). Sophomore Kim Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) went 6.2 innings, allowing 13 hits and eight runs (four earned), while striking out three for Pace.

Franklin Pierce (7-17, 4-10 NE-10) will be in action again tomorrow as it hosts Southern Connecticut State University at Lassie League Field at 1 p.m. Pace University (12-20, 3-11 NE-10) will travel to Caldwell College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
