Franklin Pierce Splits In Gene Cusic Classic Finale
Ravens blank Albright 4-0 in game one, fall 7-3 to SUNY-Fredonia in game two


Sophomore Courtney Jacobs tossed a complete game shutout to lead Franklin Pierce past Albright College in game one.

FORT MYERS, FLA. (March 22, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce softball team earned a split decision in its final day of the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Ravens opened the day with a 4-0 victory over Albright  College in game one, before being falling, 6-3, to SUNY-Fredonia in game two.

Franklin Pierce earned its third victory of the season with a 4-0 shutout victory over Albright College in game one.

Sophomore Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) led Franklin Pierce offensively with a 2-3 performance, including a single, double and two RBI. Junior Kate Surgen (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) was also 2-3 at the plate with two singles, while freshman Kristen Tracy (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Walter Panas) added a RBI double. Junior Nicole Leary (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) chipped in with a RBI single.

Courtney Jacobs also earned the victory inside the circle for Franklin Pierce
(3-2). The sophomore hurler tossed a complete game, three-hitter, yielding only three hits and one walk, while striking out five. Junior Laura Every (Schwenksville, Pa./Perk Valley) suffered the loss for Albright, allowing two runs over three innings of work.


Senior captain Michelle McConnell hit 2-3 with a double and one RBI against SUNY-Fredonia

SUNY-Fredonia exploded for six runs in the third inning and withstood a late Franklin Pierce rally to claim victory in game two.

Senior captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) led the Franklin Pierce offense with a 2-3 performance, including a single, a double, and one RBI. Freshman Kylie Molinari (Meriden, Conn./Maloney) was also solid, hitting 2-4 with two singles, while sophomore Stephanie Howard (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) chipped in with a single and two RBI.

Freshman pitcher Ashley Stewart (Westmoreland, N.H./Monadnock) suffered the loss for Franklin Pierce (0-3). The rookie hurler tossed 6.1 innings, yielding two earned runs on four hits and three walks.

Franklin Pierce (3-7, 0-0 NE-10) will be back in action on Saturday, March 31, as it opens in Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a doubleheader at American International College at 12 p.m.
