Drops Two in Florida
FORT MYERS, FLA. (March 19, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce softball team suffered a pair of losses this evening at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Ravens opened the day with a 13-7 setback to Hillsdale College in game one, before being edged 4-2 by New York Institute of Technology in the nightcap. Hillsdale 13, Franklin Pierce 7 Hillsdale College used a seven run rally in the top of the sixth inning to roll to a 13-7 victory in game one. Hillsdale sophomore Ellen Eldridge (Salem, Va./Roanoke Catholic) collected her first victory of the season (1-0), yielding only two runs in three innings of solid relief. Charger starter, junior Amy Genter (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) allowed five runs (three earned) in four innings en route a no-decision. Sophomore Jackie Prybella (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) led the Franklin Pierce offense, hitting 2-4 with one double and two RBI. Senior captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) was also solid with a 2-4 performance, including two singles, a walk and one RBI. Sophomore Elaine Matthews (Roslindale, Mass./Archbishop Williams) and classmate Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) rounded out the Ravens offensive attack with one hit apiece. Courtney Jacobs suffered the loss for Franklin Pierce (2-1). The sophomore hurler tossed 5.2 innings, yielding 12 runs (six earned) on eights hits, while walking nine and striking out ten. Freshman Ashley Stewart (Westmoreland, N.H./Monadnock) tossed 1.1 innings of relief for the Ravens, allowing one run on two hits and posting one strikeout.

New York Tech developed a 4-0 lead after four innings of play and never looked back to earn its first victory of the season. Freshman Kristen Tracy (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Walter Panas) led the Franklin Pierce offensive attack with a 2-4 performance, while sophomore Elaine Matthews extended her hitting streak to four games, hitting 2-5 with one RBI. Junior Kate Surgen (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) was 1-3 with one RBI, while classmate Nicole Leary (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) and sophomore Kristen Scagliarini (Westfield, Mass./Springfield Tech.) chipped in with one hit apiece. Junior Becky Aalto (Hubbardston, Mass./Gardner) suffered the loss for Franklin Pierce (0-2) in a complete game effort. The veteran pitcher yielded four runs (one earned) over six innings, while scattering nine hits and striking out two.

Wednesday as it takes part in a triple-header starting at 9 a.m. The
Ravens will face Hillsdale College (2-4, 0-0 GLIAC) at 9 a.m.,
