Splits With Assumption RINDGE, N.H. (April 24, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce softball team earned a split decision with Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at the Franklin Pierce softball field. Freshman Meghan DiVitto (Milford, Mass./Milford) led the Assumption offensive attack in game one, hitting a perfect 2-2 with a walk and one RBI. Classmate Colleen Conroy (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) was also solid with a 2-4 performance and one run scored, while junior Amanda Monge (Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) hit 1-3 with a double and two runs scored. Sophomore Elaine Matthews (Roslindale, Mass./Archbishop Williams) led Franklin Pierce offensively with two hits, including a double and one RBI, while classmate Jackie Prybella (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) registered a triple and one run scored. Freshman Kylie Molinari (Meriden, Conn./Maloney), junior Kate Surgen (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) and sophomore Jen Ryan (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) chipped in with one hit apiece. Assumption opened the scoring in the top of the third inning with two runs on two hits. With one out, Conroy ignited the Greyhound rally with a single up the middle and later scored on a wild pitch. Freshman Allyson Eley (Quaker Hill, Conn./Waterford) followed with a single through the left side and later scored on a Raven error. Assumption added another run in the top of the sixth inning DiVitto connected for an RBI single to drive home Monge (double). Franklin Pierce collected a run in the bottom of sixth frame as Matthews belted an RBI double to right center to drive home Prybella (triple), but sophomore Elizabeth Munica (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) retired the last five Ravens to secure the victory. Sophomore Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) suffered the loss for Franklin Pierce (6-12), tossing a complete game six-hitter with three strikeouts. Sophomore Elaine Matthews led Franklin Pierce offensively in game two, hitting 2-4 with one RBI, while senior Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) went 1-3 with one run scored. Sophomore Courtney Jacobs was also solid, hitting 1-3 with a double and one RBI, while classmate Jackie Prybella chipped in with one hit and three stolen bases. Freshman Meghan DiVitto was strong for Assumption in game two, hitting a perfect 3-3 with a double and one RBI. Junior Korina Salafia (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) added a 1-2 performance with one run scored, while classmate Sarah Helm (Chicopee, Mass./South Hadley) went 1-3 with a single. Franklin Pierce struck first with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Surgen ignited the Raven rally with a one-out single before Matthews connected for an RBI single to plate the run. Franklin Pierce added another run in the bottom of the fifth frame as Jacobs connected for her third double of the season to drive home McConnell (single). Assumption registered a run in the top half of the sixth inning on an RBI double by DiVitto, but Franklin Pierce junior Becky Aalto (Hubbardston, Mass./Gardner) retired the last four Greyhound batters to preserve the victory for the Ravens. Aalto tossed a complete game, yielding only one earned run on six hits, while striking out two. Junior Lauren Symonick (Northbridge, Mass./Northbridge) suffered the loss for Assumption, allowing only two earned urns on six hits over 5.1 innings pitched. Franklin Pierce (8-22, 5-15 NE-10) will be in action again on Thursday as it hosts the College of Saint Rose at 3 p.m. Assumption (9-25, 4-12 NE-10) will travel to Southern New Hampshire University tomorrow at 3 p.m. |
