Connecticut Rallies Past Franklin Pierce
NEW HAVEN, CONN. (April 30, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce softball team suffered a pair of losses to Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast-10 doubleheader this afternoon at Pelz Field. The Owls notched a 6-0 victory in game one, before nipping the Ravens 1-0 in game two. In game one, Southern Connecticut starter, sophomore Jessica Dempsey (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) limited Franklin Pierce to just two hits over seven innings while striking out six to earn her fourth victory of the season. Franklin Pierce freshmen Jackie Prybella (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) belted her fourth double of the season to lead the Ravens while classmate Jen Ryan (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) chipped in with a base hit. Southern Connecticut was paced by junior Emily Atkinson (Novato, Calif./Golden West CC) who was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a triple, one run scored and one RBI. Freshman Monica Savarese (Orange, Conn./Amity) hit 2-for-4 with two runs scored to aid the Owl offense, while classmate Kiersten Pry (Trumball, Conn./Trumball) went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Southern Connecticut scored all the runs it would need in the bottom half of the first inning, posting four runs on two hits. Savarese led off the inning with a double to centerfield and later scored on a fielder choice to post the first Owl run. A bases loaded walk and wild pitch allowed the Owls to plate two more runs in the inning. The Owls tacked on two more runs, one in the fourth inning and one in the sixth to earn their 20th victory of the season.
Franklin Pierce starter,
right-hander Lindsay Kanpp (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame)
suffered the loss. Knapp tossed one inning allowing four earned
runs, on two hits. Sophomore Becky Aalto (Hubbardston,
Mass./Gardner) tossed five innings of relief, yielding
two runs on seven hits while striking out one batter.

Franklin Pierce starter Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) was also solid in the circle.
