Franklin Pierce Drops Two Against Bryant
Bulldogs use six Raven errors to take game one 12-1;
Ingalls tosses no-hitter to lead Bulldogs past Ravens, 3-0 in game two

RINDGE, N.H. (April 12, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce softball team was swept by Bryant University in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at the Franklin Pierce Softball Field. The Ravens dropped the first game 12-1 before being edged in the nightcap, 3-0.  

In game one, Bryant University took advantage of four Franklin Pierce errors in the top of the first inning to jump out to an early 9-0 lead. Junior Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) led the Bulldogs, going 3-for-4 with a double, scoring three runs and knocking in two. Sophomore Jennifer Serrano (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was also solid at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Bryant University pitcher, sophomore Jennifer Bernier (Rehoboth, Mass./Rehoboth) limited Franklin Pierce to just three hits over five innings of play. Freshman Jackie Prybella (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) led the Ravens with a double, while junior Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) and freshman Stephanie Howard (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) each chipped in with a base hit.

In the top of the first inning, Bryant scored all the runs it would need as it had its first seven batters reach base before Franklin Pierce recorded an out. The Bulldogs led-off with back to back doubles to plate the first run of the game. After a walk, senior Jordan Dargon(Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph) connected for a two RBI single to left field which was followed by a single and a Raven error. With runners on second and third, Serrano belted her first double of the game, driving in two runs and giving Bryant the early advantage.

Franklin Pierce sophomore Lindsay Knapp (Elimira, N.Y./Notre Dame) suffered the loss for the Ravens, pitching four innings, allowing 12 runs, seven earned, on ten hits and two walks while striking out three. Bernier earned her third win of the season, tossing a complete game, three-hitter while striking out three batters.

Freshman Courtney Jacobs tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three.

In game two, Bryant University pitcher, junior Nikki Ingalls (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) earned her fourth victory of the season, tossing a complete game no-hitter. Ingalls hurled all seven innings for the Bulldogs, striking out six while allowing only four base runners all game on two walks and two errors. 

 Bryant was led offensively by freshman Kate Thomas (Bedford, N.H./Trinity) who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while registering her first homerun of her career. Dargon was also solid for the Bulldogs, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Bryant plated the only run it would need in the top half of the first inning, as the Bulldogs started the inning off with back to back singles. Two batters later, Dargon drove in the first Bulldog run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Bryant also notched an insurance run during the top half of the fifth inning, as Thomas belted her first homerun of the season over the centerfield fence.   

Franklin Pierce freshman Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) suffered the loss, pitching a complete game, yielding three runs on five hits while striking out three batters.  

Franklin Pierce (7-14-1, 0-7-1 NE-10) will be in action tomorrow as it travels to Assumption college for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Bryant University (10-18, 7-3      NE-10) will also be in action again tomorrow as it hosts Southern Connecticut University at 3 p.m.
