Second half of twinbill postponed due to rain

COLCHESTER, Vt. (April 20, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce softball team suffered a 7-2 setback to Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Michael’s College this afternoon at Doc Jacobs Field. The second half of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been announced.

The Ravens took an early advantage with a run in the top of the first inning, but sophomore Casey Brooks (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) got the Purple Knights on the board with a run in the bottom of the stanza. Saint Michael’s scored again in the second inning, when sophomore Caitlin McHugh (West Roxbury, Mass./Ursuline Academy) scored on a Brooks double. The Purple Knights never looked back, as Brooks scored again in the fourth frame and blasted a two-run double in the fifth to highlight a four-run inning. Franklin Pierce scored a run in the sixth, but it was not enough, as Saint Michael’s held on to win their seventh straight contest.

Sophomore Colleen Varone contributed two singles and a run scored.

Brooks finished the game with a triple, a double, a single, three RBI and two runs scored. McHugh chipped in with two runs scored, while junior Meagan Newland (East Burke, Vt./Lyndon Institute) added a hit for Saint Michael’s.
