Franklin Pierce Picks Up
Doubleheader Split With Pace

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (April 23, 2005) The Franklin Pierce softball team earned a doubleheader split with Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action at Pace Field this afternoon. After dropping the first game 9-1, the Ravens edged the Setters 1-0 in an eight inning thriller to finish up a seven game roadtrip.

Pace outhit the Ravens 10-2 and took advantage of four errors to take the first game in five innings. Senior Jacquelyn Burd (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to give the Setters an early 1-0 advantage, and classmate Tess Bair (Gaston, Ore. Forest Grove) blasted a solo homerun in the following stanza to put Pace up by two runs.

Franklin Pierce got on the board in the top of the fifth inning, as freshman Taylor Kenyon (Bennington, Vt./Mt. Anthony) tripled and scored on classmate Ariana Massimillia’s (Littleton, N.H./Lin-Wood) sacrifice fly. She accounted for both of the Ravens hits.

The Setters notched seven runs in the bottom of the inning, turning a one run lead into an eight run victory. Freshmen Dana Jo Ketchel (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) highlighted the rally with a solo homer to lead off the inning. Junior Jenna Hutchison (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) and freshman Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills, Col./Conifer) delivered RBI doubles, while Bair added an RBI single to end the game.

Bair went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI to lead the Setters offensive attack. Hutchinson hit a perfect 2-for-2, scored a run and knocked in a run, while Burd was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Frisbie and Ketchel each had one hit, one run and one RBI for Pace.

Senior Angela Loscin (San Martin, Calif./Live Oak) allowed just one earned run and two hits en route to a complete game victory. Senior Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) suffered the loss on the mound for Franklin Pierce.

Sophomore Colleen Varone (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) singled to center and advanced to second on a Kenyon base hit. Classmate Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) then plated Varone with a two-out single to win the game.

Varone led the Ravens offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Burd went 2-for-4 for the Setters, who stranded 12 base runners.

Freshman Lindsay Knapp (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) won her second straight contest for the Ravens. She scattered seven hits in a complete game shutout. Freshman Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, Pa./ Harry S. Truman) was the hard luck loser. She struck out four and allowed just one run on five hits.
