RINDGE, N.H. (April 16, 2005) – Le Moyne College, ranked No. 22 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II softball poll, picked up a doubleheader sweep of Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce today at the Franklin Pierce Softball Field. The Dolphins blanked the Ravens 7-0 in game one and earned an 11-1 victory in the second game.

            In game one, Le Moyne took advantage of six Franklin Pierce errors to score seven unearned runs. The Dolphins notched five runs in the third inning and never looked back. Freshman Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and sophomore Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) each rapped two-run singles in the stanza. Le Moyne added two more runs in the seventh inning to seal the deal.

Junior Jennifer Winters (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a pair of runs for the Dolphins. Classmate Erin Phaneuf (Dracut, Mass./Catholic Central) scattered six hits and struck out six batters in a complete game shutout on the mound. She improved her record to a perfect 8-0 for the season.

Franklin Pierce got solid production from freshman Ariana Massimilla (Littleton, N.H./Lin-Wood), who hit 2-for-3 with a double and a single. Classmates Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) and Lindsey Knapp (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) registered doubles, while freshman Kate Surgen (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) and sophomore Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) collected singles for the Ravens. Senior pitcher Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) took the loss despite allowing just seven hits in a complete game effort.

Freshman Lindsey Knapp collected a double in game one and a single in the second game.

In game two, the Dolphins exploded for six runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to an 11-1 victory to complete the twinbill sweep. DesLauriers highlighted the six-run frame with a bases loaded two-run double. Sophomore Lindsey Spanziani (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) notched a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored, while seniors Kristi Edmunds (East Syracuse, N.Y./ES-M) and Molly Reagan (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), along with freshman Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./ES-M) rapped RBI singles in the inning.

Le Moyne added three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. DesLauriers delivered an RBI double in the fourth, while Kolic ripped a two-run single in the fifth stanza. DesLauriers hit 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Kolic went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored in the contest. Spanziani also went 3-for-3 for the Dolphins.

Reed was impressive both at the plate and on the mound. She hit 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs on the offensive side. She also earned the win, limiting the Ravens to just three hits in four innings pitched.

Franklin Pierce got hits from Giardina, Knapp and classmate Taylor Kenyon (Bennington, Vt./Mt. Anthony). Surgen scored the Ravens lone run.

Franklin Pierce (6-18, 4-8 NE-10) opens up an eight-game roadtrip on Monday, when they travel to Bentley College for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. Le Moyne (20-4, 11-1 NE-10) wraps up a six-game roadtrip tomorrow, when they travel to Bryant University fir a pair of league tilts starting at 1:00 p.m.
