Pierce Falls to
In game one, the River Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the third
inning as junior Mary
Dank (Webster, N.Y./Webster)
singled in freshman Vikki
Guido (Winchester, Mass./Winchester).
Lowell then added two more runs in the fifth with another RBI single
from Dank to score Guido. Junior Sara
Farias (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield)
brought home the third and final run with a double down the right
field line.
The Ravens attempted a comeback in the seventh when freshman Bianca
Balassone (Cranston,
R.I./Lasalle Academy)
singled and scored on an error, but Mahoney held Franklin Pierce to
one run on three hits over seven innings with two walks and 10
strikeouts to improve to 14-8. Junior
Amy Torla (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) dropped to 1-8 on
the year as she allowed three runs on seven hits with three walks and
four strikeouts for the Ravens.
UMass Lowell plated runs in the first four innings of game two
to cruise to a 9-0 win. Farias led the River Hawks as she went 2-for-3
at the dish with three RBI and a run scored. Dank and junior Tabitha
Herbert (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) followed both going 2-3 with
two runs scored while Herbert also added an RBI.
Herbert scattered two hits over five innings with five
strikeouts to pick up her eighth win of the season for UMass Lowell.
Torla suffered her second loss of the afternoon for Franklin Pierce,
throwing one inning and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits.
Junior Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) relieved
her and pitched three innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits.
The Ravens finish the 2004 season at 10-26-1, 4-24 in the
Northeast-10. Friday UMass Lowell will play in the Northeast-10
Tournament on Friday at 4:00 p.m. |
