Saint Anselm Sweeps Franklin Pierce Ravens fall to Hawks in eight innings 4-3 in game one and 4-0 in game two MANCHESTER,
N.H. (April 27, 2004) - Franklin
Pierce softball dropped a doubleheader to Saint Anselm this afternoon,
suffering a 4-3 setback in eight innings in game one and being shut
out 4-0 in game two. The Hawks came back to tie the score in the bottom of the inning, however, with an RBI single from Julie Pistorino (Abington, Mass./ Cardinal Spellman) to bring home Melissa O’Connor (Belmont, Mass./ Belmont). Franklin Pierce then answered with a two-run fourth; Dana Wetzel (Riverdale, N.J./Pompton Lakes) led off with a single and scored on a wild pitch and freshman Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) plated classmate Colleen Varone (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) with an RBI single. Saint Anselm staged a comeback to tie the score at three runs apiece in the bottom of the seventh on two bases loaded walks then Maria Lisa Marciano (North Reading, Mass./ North Reading) singled in the winning run for the Hawks in the eighth. Brigitte June (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./ Saratoga Springs) held the Ravens to one hit and picked up the win (7-7), throwing four innings in relief of Jaclyn Kinsman (Tewksbury, Mass./Notre Dame) who allowed three runs on five hits with one strikeout. June tallied one walk and three strikeouts in her appearance. Boutiette pitched seven innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits with seven walks and three strikeouts for the Ravens. Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) relieved her in the eighth and allowed one run on three hits to fall to 2-8 on the season. In
game two of the twinbill, the Saint Anselm shut out Franklin Pierce,
4-0. Pistorino led the charge for the Hawks, going 3-for-4 at the dish
with two RBI. Haley Wojtasinski (Hingham, Mass./ Hingham)
followed as she hit 2-4 and scored twice. Lemoie threw six innings for Franklin Pierce and allowed one earned run on nine hits with two strikeouts to and took the loss (2-9). The Ravens (10-24-1, 4-22 NE-10) will travel to UMass Lowell tomorrow for their final doubleheader of the season, starting at 3 p.m. Saint Anselm ends the year at 16-25, 12-16 in the Northeast-10. |
