Setters Shut Out Ravens 5-0 and 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. (April 24, 2004) – Franklin Pierce softball was shutout 5-0 and 3-0 by Pace in Northeast-10 Conference action at home today.

            In the first game of the day, it was scoreless until the fourth when freshman Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) singled in senior Melanie Judson (Dover Plains, N.Y./Dover) who reached with a walk. Classmate Jacquelyn Burd (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) singled and scored on an error for the second run then freshman Karla Diaz (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) drove in Krause with an RBI double to make it 3-0 in favor of the Setters.

            Pace went on to tack on two more insurance runs in the sixth as Krause had an RBI single and sophomore Jenna Hutchinson (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) doubled to bring in Diaz for the final run of the game.

            Junior Angela Locsin (San Martin, Calif./Live Oak) went five innings and picked up the win (17-7) for the Setters allowing just two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Freshman Allison Mathosian (East Setauket, N.Y./Tottenville) relieved her and went two innings, allowing three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Junior Christine Boutiette (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) took the loss for the Ravens (2-5) in a complete game effort. She allowed one earned run on eight hits with five walks and four strikeouts and also was 1-3 at the plate with a single.

            Pace scored all the runs it needed for its second win of the day in the first inning of game two. Judson knocked a two-RBI double then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sheila Mercado (Greeley, Colo./Greeley West).

            Julia Hunt (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) earned the victory (6-4) as pitched a complete game shutout and allowed two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) went the distance for the Ravens and dropped to 2-6 on the year. She allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with six strikeouts.

            The Ravens (10-20-1, 4-18 NE-10) travel to Southern Connecticut tomorrow for a Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., while Pace (24-14, 19-7 NE-10) will host Southern New Hampshire tomorrow.
