Franklin Pierce Splits With
#10 Le Moyne

Ravens Snap 34 Game Winning Streak
for Dolphins at Home

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 17, 2004) – Franklin Pierce split a doubleheader with Le Moyne, ranked #14 in the The National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II national poll, falling 5-1 in game one and picking up a 2-1 victory in eight innings in game two in Northeast-10 Conference softball action this afternoon at the Niland Athletic Complex. With its victory in game two, Franklin Pierce ended a 34 game winning streak for the Dolphins at home.

In the first contest of the afternoon, the Ravens took a 1-0 lead in the third as junior Megan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) reached on an error and scored on a single by senior Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica).

That would be all the offense for Franklin Pierce in the opening game, however, as Le Moyne went on to plate five runs in the sixth to secure the win.  Junior Megan Leppin (Vienna, Va./James Madison) led the charge with a two-RBI double.

Megan Vecchiano ( East Syracuse , N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) went seven innings for the Dolphins and allowed no earned runs on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts to improve to 7-3 on the season. Junior Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) dropped to 2-2 for the Ravens and allowed one earned run on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Ravens once again began with an early 1-0 lead as junior Jessica Heaney (Greenport, N.Y./Greenport) drove in Christine Boutiette ( Cumberland , R.I./Cumberland) with a two-out single in the top of the second.
The Dolphins answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning as junior Lisa Flow (Holley, N.Y./Kendall) scored on a fielder’s choice.

Senior Michelle Derochers posted two hits and two RBIs on the afternoon, including the game winner against the Dolphins.

However, the Ravens were able to hold off LeMoyne and plate the winning run in the eighth after Welcome singled then scored on an RBI single by Derochers.

Senior captain Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) (5-2) picked up the win for Franklin Pierce, scattering just four hits and one run over eight innings of work with one walk and five strikeouts to hand the Dolphins their first home field loss since April 13, 2002. Erin Phaneuf (Dracut, Mass./Catholic Central) fell to 7-2 on the year as she went eight innings and allowed one earned run on six hits.

Franklin Pierce (10-10-1, 4-8 NE-10) returns home tomorrow for a Conference doubleheader against Merrimack beginning at 1 p.m. Le Moyne (18-6, 9-3) hosts Bryant tomorrow with the twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
