Franklin
Pierce Drops
The Ravens were shutout in
the first game of the day as American International hurler junior Kelly
D’Angelo (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) held Franklin Pierce to
just two hits as she threw a complete game with two walks and 17
strikeouts. Melissa Cuthbert (Natal, South Africa/Universal)
and Brittany Provost (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg) led the
Yellow Jackets offense as they each posted RBIs in the win. Junior Christine Boutiette (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) allowed two earned runs on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts for the Ravens and drops to 2-1 on the season.
Battery In
game two, the Ravens jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a two-run second
inning as freshman Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre
Wellington) belted a two-RBI double that scored freshman Lindsey
Souza (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) and sophomore Dana
Wetzel (Riverdale, N.J./Pompton Lakes).
The lead was brief, however, as the Yellow Jackets posted three
runs in the bottom half of the inning as Cuthbert singled then scored
on an error and Lauren Rankey (Troy, N.Y./Mechanicville)
drove in Casey Wall (Westport, Conn./Staples) and Nikki
Matisi (Endicott, N.Y./Endicott Union) with an RBI single.
American International added an insurance run in the third as
Matisi singled to score Ashley St. Germain (Springfield,
Mass./HS of Science & Tech.).
Senior captain Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont)
(2-1) pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits
with one walk and five strikeouts for the Ravens. Matisi (2-3) threw a
complete game and allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks and
two strikeouts, picking up the victory for AIC.
The Franklin Pierce (6-4-1) returns to action on Thursday when
they travel to Assumption for a twinbill beginning at 3 p.m.
