Franklin Pierce Splits Twinbill With two runs in both the first and third innings, the Wolves jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Ravens answered with seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings. Cardinal Stritch then knotted the score at seven apiece with a three-run sixth to send the game to extra innings and took a two-run lead in the top of the eighth, which Franklin Pierce could not overcome. Senior Lauren Chenausky (Royalston, Mass./Athol) led the Ravens’ offense with a three-RBI triple; classmate Brooke Remington (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony) was 3-for-5 at the dish with a run scored and two RBI, while freshman Lindsey Souza (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) went 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln)
started on the mound for Franklin Pierce and went 5.2 innings, allowed
seven runs (five earned) on eight hits with one walk.
Amy Torla (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill)
relieved her and took the loss. Torla threw 2.1 innings and allowed
two earned runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Battery
In its second game of the afternoon, Franklin Pierce notched a 3-2 come-from-behind win with a three-run seventh inning. Freshman catcher Bianca Balassone (Cranston, R.I./Lasalle Academy) was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, classmate Colleen Varone (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) went 2-3 at the dish and Remington was 2-4 with a run scored. Junior Christine Boutiette (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) pitched a complete game and picked up the victory. She allowed two runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Jill Kiemach (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) took the loss for the Panthers as she went seven innings, allowed three unearned runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout. Franklin Pierce (2-1-1) returns to action with a game against Teikyo Post tomorrow at 9 a.m. followed by a matchup with St. Michael’s at 1 p.m.
