Franklin Pierce Wins One, Drops Two FORT MYERS, FLA. (March 18, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce softball team recorded a 7-5 win over Knox College and suffered a 7-3 loss to the University of Northern Colorado and a 3-2 loss to Hillsdale College in non-conference softball action on day three of the 2003 Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. this afternoon. The Ravens opened up the afternoon with a 7-3 loss to UNC. Junior Meg Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) went 2-3 with an RBI, while sophomore Deanna Jones (Wayside, N.J./Ocean Twp.) hit 1-3 with a two run double. Franklin Pierce sophomore Amy Torla (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) allowed seven runs, four earned, on 12 hits and walked three in the loss.

(4-1) Franklin Pierce rebounded from the loss to Northern Colorado with a 7-5 come-from-behind win over Knox College. The Ravens were down by three runs in the top of the third, when sophomore Christine Boutiette (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) led off with a double to spark the four-run rally. Welcome then singled and advanced to second on a stolen base. Junior Brooke Remington (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony) smacked a single to bring Boutiette home and close in on Knox. Welcome was singled in by junior Lauren Chenausky (Athol, Mass./Athol) later in the inning and senior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill) scored off of a Dana Wetzel (Riverdale, N.J./Pompton Lakes) walk to even the score, 4-4. The Ravens were able to pull ahead for good when Chenausky stole home on a passed ball. Welcome hit 2-4 with a run and two stolen bases, while Haight went 1-2 with a double and two runs scored. Chenausky batted 2-4 with two runs and an RBI and Wetzel hit 2-2, including a triple, and an RBI. Sophomore Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) allowed five earned runs on ten hits, walked three and struck out three for the win, while Boutiette struck out two and walked one for the save.

Lemoie (1-0) The Ravens fell in their final contest of the day, dropping a 3-2 decision to Hillsdale College. Haight had another outstanding game, hitting 3-4 with a double, while Jones went 1-3 with two RBI. Junior Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) suffered the loss, as she gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits, walked three and stuck out three.
