Franklin Pierce Splits Twinbill with Teikyo Post
Ravens shutout Eagles, 4-0, in game one and fall 3-1 in game two

NEW HAVEN, CONN. (March 26, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce softball team registered a 4-0 shutout in game one, but fell 3-1 in game two of a non-conference doubleheader with Teikyo Post University this afternoon.

Junior Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) fired a two-hit shutout, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out one for her second victory of the season.

Junior Brooke Remington led off the first with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by classmate Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica). Senior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill) then singled in Remington to help the Ravens jump out to a one run lead.

The Ravens continued to take advantage in the second as freshman Dana Wetzel (Riverdale, N.J./Pompton Lakes) singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and later scored on a Teikyo Post throwing error. Sophomore Amy Torla (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) then singled and stole second and third to put herself in scoring position. Remington knocked a sacrifice fly to score Torla and give the Ravens the 3-0 lead.

Franklin Pierce closed out the inning with an RBI single from Derochers to make the final, Franklin Pierce 4, Teikyo Post 0.

Teikyo Post hurler, Emily Alison suffered the loss as she allowed four earned runs on seven hits and struck out two in seven innings of work.

In the rematch, Teikyo Post freshman Christa Holtom struck out 14 Franklin Pierce batters to lead the Eagles to a 3-1 victory in game two. Holtom allowed just one earned run on three hits in a complete game effort to improve to 5-4 on the season. Remington recorded the Ravens lone run of the game, as Haight drove her in with an RBI in the top of the first.

The Eagles fought back in the bottom of the first with RBI singles from Melissa Czeremcha and Allison and scored on a Franklin Pierce error to pull off the come from behind win.
