Senior Julie Haight spoiled the LeMoyne no hitter with a double in game one

Franklin Pierce Falls to No. 12 LeMoyne
Ravens shutout 8-0 in game one, fall 6-2 in game two

RINDGE, N.H. (April 19, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce softball team suffered an 8-0 shutout and a 6-2 loss to No. 12-ranked LeMoyne College in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at the Franklin Pierce softball field this afternoon. The doubleheader win extends the Dolphins winning streak to 14 games.

Senior Marnie Sundburg fired a one-hitter, as she walked just one and struck out eight batters to earn her ninth shutout win of the season.

Sophomore Kristi Edmunds led the LeMoyne offense hitting 3-for-3, with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Senior Emily Senko went 2-3 with a home run, run scored and two RBI, while sophomore Kim Kalec hit 1-2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI.

Senior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill) was the only Raven to register a hit, as she spoiled Sundberg's no hitter with a double in the bottom of the second.

The Ravens held the Dolphins off for three innings until Senko led off the frame with a solo shot to centerfield. Sophomore Megan Leppin helped the Dolphins go up by two moments later as she doubled, stole second and scored on a Franklin Pierce error.

The Dolphins broke the game wide open an inning later, as Edmunds knocked a two-run blast to left center to take the four-run lead.

LeMoyne put away the game for good when Kalec knocked a three-run homer deep into left field and Senko smacked an RBI single in the top of the fifth to make the final, LeMoyne 8, Franklin Pierce 0.

Franklin Pierce sophomore Amy Torla (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) allowed eight runs, six earned, on nine hits, walked two and struck out four for the loss.

Junior Lauren Chenausky hit 1-3 with a double and two RBI in game two

LeMoyne completed the doubleheader sweep of the Ravens with a 6-2 win in game two.

Freshman Jennifer Wintershit 4-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, while senior Annie Jacobs hit 3-4 with an RBI. Junior Lindsay Connor went 2-4 with a run and RBI.

Franklin Pierce was led by junior Lauren Chenausky (Athol, Mass./Athol), who hit 1-3 with a double and a pair of RBI. Sophomore Meg Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) also hit 1-3.

The Dolphins opened up the scoring in the top of the second as Winters doubled and was later driven in on a double from Edmunds. The Ravens pulled ahead in the bottom of the third when Chenausky knocked a two-run RBI double to put the Ravens up by a run.

The Dolphins knotted the score 2-2 in the top of the fourth, as Connor doubled and was brought home on an RBI single from Winters.

Senko helped the Dolphins slowly pull away from the Ravens in the top of the fifth as she doubled and scored on a fielder's choice to take the lead. LeMoyne continued to take advantage of the Ravens, tacking on three more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win.

Junior Megan Vecchiano improved to 15-2, as she allowed just two runs, just one earned, on two hits, walked two and struck out seven in a complete game effort. Sophomore Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) suffered the loss as she allowed six earned runs on 12 hits, walked one and struck out five.
