Pierce Takes Two From Saint Rose RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce softball team snapped an eight game losing streak and earned their first Conference wins with back-to-back shutout victories over the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference softball action this afternoon.
In game one, sophomore Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) fired a two-hit shutout, walking one and striking out six in a complete game effort. Junior Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) hit 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI, while sophomore Meg Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) also went 1-3 with a run. Senior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill) finished hitting 2-2. Welcome led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by classmate Jessica Heaney (Greenport, N.Y./Greenport). Derochers then doubled and later scored on a passed ball to help the Ravens score the only runs they would need to seal the 2-0 victory. The Golden Knights threatened in the bottom of the third when Amanda Mohan doubled and moved to third on a Kathryn Wright single. Stephanie Cietek advanced to first on a fielder's choice, but Jaclyn Woltkowski grounded out to third and Rebekah Conroy flew out to centerfield to close out the top of the third. Senior Kristin Castle suffered the loss as she allowed two runs, both earned, on four hits, struck out five and walked none in six innings of work.

In the rematch, junior Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) tossed a two-hit shutout to lead the Ravens to their second win of the afternoon. Wotton stuck out four and walked none for her third shutout of the season. Chenausky hit 3-3 with a pair of RBI, while junior Quinn Tremblay (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) went 2-3 with a double and two RBI. Heaney batted 2-4 with two runs scored in the win. Mohan finished hitting 1-2 with a double for the Golden Knights. The Ravens took advantage early, as Chenausky drove in Welcome and later scored on a passed ball to help the Ravens go up by two. Heaney also scored on a passed ball to hold a 3-0 advantage heading into the second inning. The Ravens tacked on two more in the third to ice the win. Sophomore Shannon Delos suffered the loss as she allowed three earned runs on eight hits and struck out two.
