International Stops Franklin Pierce SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (April 15, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce softball team dropped a tough 2-1 loss in extra innings in game one and fell 9-1 in game two, as they were swept by American International College in Northeast-10 Conference softball action this afternoon.
The teams were scoreless through nine innings heading into the extra frame. Sophomore Amy Torla (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) was sent to second as the tie-breaker and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill). Junior Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) then knocked a sacrifice fly to score Torla and break the deadlock. In the bottom of the frame American International's Amber Radomski was sent to second as the tie-breaker and scored on a Robin Rossi double. Rossi later advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error to seal the Yellow Jackets win. Sophomore Kelly D'Angelo was enroute to a perfect game, but her efforts were spoiled when Derochers drew a walk in the top of the eighth. D'Angelo was outstanding nonetheless as she allowed just one earned run on one hit, walked two and struck out 13 in a complete game effort. Junior Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) was the hard-luck loser, as she allowed no earned runs on four hits, walked two and struck out none.

The Ravens answered in the top of the fourth when junior Lauren Chenausky (Athol, Mass./Athol) scored on a Yellow Jacket throwing error to cut the lead to two runs. The Yellow Jackets ran away with the game for good in the bottom of the sixth as senior Kristen Patterson registered an RBI single and Feniola and Radomski each hit two-run doubles to make the final American International College 8, Franklin Pierce 1.
