Pierce Dominates Assumption RINDGE, N.H. (April 29, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce softball team posted back-to-back victories over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at the Franklin Pierce Softball Field this afternoon. The Ravens opened up the afternoon with a 10-1 win over the Greyhounds. Franklin Pierce erupted for 17 hits, seven of which came in the bottom of the second, to post their first series sweep since Saint Rose on April 17. Freshman Dana Wetzel (Riverdale, N.J./Pompton Lakes) helped the Ravens jump out to a two-run lead in the second stanza, knocking a two-run double to drive in teammates Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill) and Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont). Wetzel was later brought home on an RBI double by junior Quinn Tremblay (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont).
Tremblay put the Ravens up by five in the bottom of the fourth when she doubled and was sent home on an RBI triple by sophomore Meg Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill). Welcome later scored on a fielder's choice to give Franklin Pierce the six-run lead. Kathan Murphy scored the Greyhounds' lone run of the afternoon on a Franklin Pierce error in the top of the fifth, but it wouldn't be enough to spark the Assumption offense, as the Ravens tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the frame to put the game out of reach. Junior Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) hit 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Tremblay went 2-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Welcome hit 2-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored and Haight went 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Sophomore Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) allowed just one run on two hits, struck out one and walked none in five innings of work for the win. Assumption's Amy Van Kahle allowed four earned runs on four hits in a little over an inning for the loss.

The Ravens completed the sweep of the Greyhounds with a 3-1 win in the night cap. Franklin Pierce relied on the strong pitching of Wotton, who allowed just one run, none earned, on four hits, walked two and struck out two to improve to 6-9 on the season.Derochers continued to lead the offense in game two hitting 1-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBI. Chenausky followed hitting 2-3 with an RBI, while Tremblay hit 1-2 with a double and a run scored. Sophomore Jacqui Greene was the only Greyhound to multiple register hits, as she went 2-3 with an RBI. The Greyhounds got on the board first as Hordern advanced to first on a Franklin Pierce error, stole second and was later singled in by Greene in the top of the second. Assumption held on to the lead for most of the game until Derochers knocked a two run triple in the top of the fifth to take away the lead. Chenausky then knocked in Derochers to score the insurance marker and make the final, Franklin Pierce 3, Assumption 1. Junior Melissa Fallon was the hardluck loser as she allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits, walked one and stuck out two to fall to 3-6.
