Sweeps Saint
Michael's
Ravens win 4-0 in game one, 6-1 in game
two
RINDGE, N.H. (April 13, 2002)
- The Franklin Pierce University
softball team posted a doubleheader
sweep over Saint Michael's College, defeating the Purple
Knights 4-0 in game one and 6-1 in game two in Northeast-10
Conference action at the FP
softball field this afternoon.
The Ravens were led by freshman hurler
Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln), who struck
out five and walked three in a complete game effort to earn
her second shutout this season.
Junior Carolyn Hall (Whitman,
Mass./Whitman-Hanson) went two-for-four, including
a solo homerun, with two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman
Kayla Desjardins (Plainfield, Conn./Plainfield) and
Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) both
added a pair of hits in the win.
Saint Michael's Amanda Frost hit
2-3 for the Purple Knights.

got on the board early, as freshman
Sonja Johnson (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex Regional)
advanced to first on a single, stole second and
later scored on an error to put the Ravens up 1-0. Hall
put the Ravens up by two in the bottom of the fourth when
she singled in teammate Desjardins.
Hall iced the win with a solo shot
over the right field fences in the bottom of the sixth to
pull away from the Purple Knights for good.
Starter Lisa Marien allowed three
earned runs on nine hits, stuck out one and walked one in
just over five innings of work. Heather Chamberlin allowed
one run on one hit and walked two in under an inning of
relief for the loss.

The Ravens followed
up the shutout victory with a 6-1 win in game two of the
afternoon doubleheader.

sophomore Brooke
Remington (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony) went 3-4
with an RBI and a run scored, while Johnson batted 2-4 with
an RBI and a run. Junior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery,
N.Y./O'Neill) went 1-1 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Sara Pope led the
Purple Knights hitting 2-4 with an RBI. Katie Sargent also
batted 2-4.
The Ravens once again
took advantage of the Purple Knights early, as Hall singled
and later scored on a Remington RBI. Haight put the Ravens
up by two later in the inning when she knocked a sacrifice
fly and scored Johnson.
The Ravens went up
by four in the third inning when Remington doubled and was
later sent home by Haight, who smacked an RBI double. Later
in the frame, Haight stole home to make the score 4-0 heading
into the fourth.
The Purple Knights
spoiled the shutout in the top of the third when Pope knocked
in Christina Touhey to score Saint Michael's only run of
the afternoon. The Ravens tacked on two more runs in the
bottom of the sixth to seal their second straight victory.

sophomore Kalene
Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) yielded
just one earned run on seven hits, struck out three and
walked one in seven innings of work for the win. Saint Michael's
Kara McManus allowed four earned runs on eight hits, struck
out two and walked none for the loss.

return home on Wednesday when they take on Bentley College
at 3:30 p.m. Saint Michael's (3-19, 2-10 NE-10) travels
to Assumption College tomorrow for a League matchup at noon.
