Ties and Drops One on Day Four of Tournament Ravens
tie with Plymouth State 2-2, then fall to Grand View 12-7
in game two

- The Franklin Pierce University
softball team had their three
game winning streak snapped as they tied with Plymouth State
College 2-2 and fell to Grand View 12-7 in non-conference
action the 2002 Gene Cusic Classic this afternoon.
In game one, FP
jumped out to the
early one run lead in the top of the first. Freshman Sonja
Johnson (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex Regional)
bunted to reach first and then stole second and third base.
Junior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill)
knocked in Johnson to make the score 1-0.
Plymouth State answered in the sixth
when Kristen Fusick singled to left to reach first. Kristin
Balles bunted to advance Fusick to second. Adriene Harvey
then corked a single to drive in Fusick and knot the score
1-1.
Both teams were deadlocked at the
end of seven, so Plymouth State led off the eighth with
Fusick on second. Balles hit a sacrifice bunt to advance
Fusick to third and Harvey once again scored Fusick with
an RBI single.
FP
fought back, however, and led
off with Brooke Remington (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony)
on second. Junior Carolyn Hall (Whitman,
Mass./Whitman-Hanson) singled and sent Remington
home to make the final -- FP
2, Plymouth State 2.
Haight hit two-for-three and recorded
one RBI, while Hall hit one-for-four with an RBI. FP
hurler
Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) allowed
two earned runs on eight hits, struck out one batter and
walked none. Plymouth State's Kim Jeffs (Stoughton,
Mass. /Stoughton) allowed two earned runs on five
hits, struck out 16 batters and walked none.

dropped its second
contest of the day, surrendering a 12-7 decision to Grand
View College.
The Ravens struck
early, scoring six runs in a wild first inning, but the
Vikings came back and tied the score at six a piece in the
bottom of the second.
FP
regained the lead
after Jessica Heaney (Greenport, N.Y./Greenport)
singled in Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica)
to make the score 7-6 in the top of the fourth.
Grand View once again
tied the game when Tara Holste knocked in teammate Megan
Hilleman to make the score 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth.
Brandi Fink then pounded a three-run homer over the left
field fence to put the Vikings ahead for good.
Grand View's Emily
Jamison allowed three earned runs on ten hits, struck out
one and walked none for the win. FPC's Amy Torla (Haverhill,
Mass./Haverhill) allowed five earned runs on five
hits and walked one in two innings of work for the loss.
Starter Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont)
allowed one earned run on eight hits, struck out four and
walked two in six innings of work..
