Wins Over FP
Setters shutout Ravens 7-0 in game one
and win 4-2 in game two
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (April 14, 2002)
- The Franklin Pierce University
softball team was defeated
by Pace University, 7-0 in game one and 4-2 in game two,
in Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader action this afternoon.
The Setters were led by freshman
Angela Locsin who tossed a no-hitter in game one. Locsin
allowed just three runners to reach base and struck out
five batters to earn the shutout win. Locsin also smacked
a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning to highlight
the Setters offense.
Pace's Jackie Burd went two-for-two
with two RBIs, while Kim Akers hit 3-4, including a double.
Pace opened up the scoring in the
bottom of the first as senior Sara Slivon knocked an RBI
triple to give the Setters the early lead.
FP
hurler, Amy Torla (Haverhill,
Mass./Haverhill), allowed two earned runs on four
hits, walked two and struck out two in three innings of
work for the loss.

In game two of the
doubleheader, Locsin notched her second win of the afternoon
as she allowed two earned runs on six hits, struck out seven
and walked one.
The teams were scoreless
up until the bottom of the fourth when Kari Diaz slugged
her first career homerun to help the Setters take the one
run lead. Silvon added one more run to make the score
2-0.
The Setters added
two more runs in the bottom of the sixth when Burd hit a
two-run homer, but FPC's Quinn Tremblay (Westminster,
Mass./Oakmont Regional) knocked a two-run bomb of
her own in the seventh to close in on the Setters.
Tremblay finished
hitting 3-3 with a double and a two run homerun.
FPC's Kalene
Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) allowed
four earned runs on seven hits, struck out four and walked
none in six innings of work for the loss.
