falls 2-1 in game one, wins 2-1 in
game two
NEW HAVEN, CONN. (March 29, 2002)
- The Franklin Pierce University
softball team dropped a 2-1
decision in game one and then defeated the University of
New Haven, 2-1, in game two of a double header in non-conference
action this evening.
In game one, both teams were held
scoreless until FP
got on the board in the sixth inning.
Junior Carolyn Hall (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson)
singled in freshman Brooke McGovern (Taunton,
Mass./Coyle Cassidy) to help the Ravens take the
one run advantage.
The Chargers answered in the bottom
of the sixth when Diana York smacked a double and drove
in teammate Jennifer Green to knot the score 1-1. York would
later score what proved to be the game-winning run when
Kristin Boken singled in York to make the final -- New Haven
2, FP
1.
Hall went two-for-two, including
a double, and drove in one run. Boken allowed only one earned
run on three hits, struck out three and walked one in seven
innings of work for the win.
FP
sophomore Kalene Wotton
(Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) allowed two
earned runs on seven hits, struck out two and walked one
in the loss.

followed up the
loss with a 2-1 win in game two of the twin bill.
The Chargers drew
first blood in the bottom of the second when Beth Troupe
singled and brought Boken home to take the one run lead.
The Ravens tied things
up in the top of the fourth when freshman Kayla Desjardins
(Plainfield, Conn./Plainfield) doubled and drove
in Hall to make the score 1-1.
The game-winning run
in the top of the sixth when Michelle Derochers (Billerica,
Mass./Billerica) drove in Hall for the 2-1 victory.
Desjardins hit 2-3
and recorded an RBI, while Hall hit 1-3 with two runs scored.
Freshman hurler, Amy
Torla (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill), improved to
3-1 as she allowed just one earned run on seven hits, struck
out two and walked one for the win. Boken allowed one earned
run on five hits, struck out three and walked none despite
the loss.
