Nicole Keene tosses first career no-hitter
to lead Bulldogs
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 29, 2002)
- Nicole Keene tossed her first career no-hitter to lead
Bryant College past Franklin Pierce College, 5-0, in Northeast-10
Conference softball action this afternoon at the Bryant
Softball Complex.
Keene struck out five batters and
walked three through six innings to improve to 7-6 on the
year. The Bryant offense was led by Deidre Kittredge, who
went two-for-four with three RBIs and a run scored. Lindsay
Schoolcraft hit a perfect 3-3, while Lisa Aguiar and Sarah
Melican both went 2-3 with a run scored.
Bryant broke open the scoring in
the top of the third, as Kittredge knocked in a two-run
triple to help the Bulldogs take the 2-0 lead. Kittredge
later went on to score Bryant's third run of the frame after
Holly McCarthy singled her in.
Kittredge added another run in the
top of the fourth when she knocked in Aguiar to make the
score 4-0.
Bryant's final run came in the top
of the sixth, when Carley Muise singled in Melican to make
the final, Bryant 5, FP
0.
FPC's Amy Torla (Haverhill,
Mass./Haverhill) allowed four earned runs on 13
hits, stuck out one and walked none in six innings of work
for the loss.
