Bulldogs notch 9-5 victory in game one,
game two suspended
WORCESTER, MASS. (April 4, 2002)
- The Franklin Pierce University
softball team fell to Bryant
College, 9-5, in game one of this afternoon's Northeast-10
Conference double header, while game two was suspended due
to darkness.
Bryant's Katie Slack finished hitting
three-for-four, including a double, with three runs scored
and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs offense. Carley Muise went
2-3 with a run scored, while Kristin Gambacorta added three
RBIs.

drew first blood when freshman
Mary Reade (Groveland, Mass./Pentuckett Reg.) smacked
a two-run blast to put the Ravens up 2-0 in the second.
The Ravens tacked on another run in the third as sophomore
Quinn Tremblay (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) singled
in freshman Brooke McGovern (Taunton, Mass./Coyle
Cassidy) to give FP
a 3-0 advantage.
Bryant battled back in the fourth
as Slack, Gambacorta and Katie Kelley all drove in runs
to help the Bulldogs to take a one run lead. FP
answered
when sophomore Michelle Derochers (Billerica, Mass./Billerica)
singled in Carolyn Hall (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson)
in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score 4-4.
Gambacorta put the Bryant ahead for
good in the fifth when she drove in Slack and Lindsay Schoolcraft.
The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs to ice the win.
Reade went 2-5, with a two run homer
and an RBI. Junior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery,
N.Y./O'Neill) added a pair of hits and an RBI for
the Ravens.
Bryant hurler, Diane Cummings allowed
four earned runs on six hits, walked five and struck out
one for the win. Nicole Keene allowed no earned runs on
one hit, walked none and struck out one for the save. FP
freshman Courtney Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) allowed
two earned runs on four hits, struck out two and walked
one for the loss.

The teams were scheduled
to play game two of a doubleheader, but the game was suspended
due to darkness with Bryant College holding 2-0 lead after
three and a half innings. A makeup date has not yet been
determined.
