Freshman Kelly D'Angelo strikes out 14
to set school record
RINDGE, N.H. (April 26, 2002)
- Freshman Kelly D'Angelo struck out 14 batters to set a
new school record and lead American International College
to a 6-1 win over Franklin Pierce University
in Northeast-10
Conference softball doubleheader action today at the FP
softball field.
D'Angelo went the distance allowing
just one earned run on five hits to earn her tenth win of
the season. The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Dena Feniola,
who went two-for-three with two RBIs. Robin Rossi hit 2-4
with a run scored, while Nikki Matisi batted 2-4 with a
double and an RBI.
FPC's lone run was scored by Carolyn
Hall (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson), who went 1-3
with a triple. The Yellow Jackets broke open three scoreless
innings of softball when Feniola singled and later scored
on a double by Matisi to go up by one.
The Yellow Jackets then tacked on
four unearned runs in the fifth and sixth to put the game
out of FPC's reach.
FP
hurler, Courtney Lemoie
(Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln), allowed six runs, just
two earned, on ten hits, struck out three and walked none
in seven innings of work for the loss.

AIC went on a seven
run scoring rally in the top of the fourth inning to complete
the sweep of FP
in the nightcap with a 9-1 win.
Rossi hit 2-3 with
two run scored and two RBIs, while Patterson went 2-3 with
a runs scored and three RBIs. Feniola and Lauren Morse both
batted 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
FPC's Michelle Derochers
(Billerica, Mass./Billerica) was the only Raven to post
a multiple hit game, as she went 2-2.
Patterson opened up
the scoring in the top of the third as she knocked a triple
and drove in Rossi and Matisi to take the 2-0 lead. Matisi
sparked the seven run rally in the fourth with an RBI single,
followed by an RBI single by Morse. Rossi then pounded a
two-run single just one batter later to make the score 6-0.
The rally was capped off with RBI singles by Patterson and
Feniola.
Matisi earned the
win as she allowed just one run on four hits, struck out
four and walked none in five innings of work. FPC's Kalene
Wotton (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) allowed four
earned runs on five hits, struck out three and walked none
in three innings for the loss. Amy Torla (Haverhill,
Mass./Haverhill) allowed two earned runs on six
hits in two innings of relief.
