Ravens record first ever win over Warriors
with 2-1 victory in game one, Warriors blank Ravens 9-0
in game two
RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2002)
- Sophomore Quinn Tremblay (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont)
ripped a long shot to centerfield and scored teammate Kayla
Desjardins (Plainfield, Conn./Plainfield) in the
bottom of the 12th inning to lead Franklin Pierce University
to a 2-1 victory and its first win ever over Merrimack College
this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader action
at the FP
Softball Field this afternoon.
Tremblay finished hitting three-for-four
with an RBI. Junior Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery,
N.Y./O'Neill) went 2-4 with an RBI, while classmate
Carolyn Hall (Whitman, Mass./Whitman Hanson)
hit 2-5 with a run scored.
FP
hurler Kalene Wotton (Westminster,
Mass./Oakmont) recorded one of her finest performances
of the season, as she allowed no earned runs on seven hits,
struck out four and walked none in 12 innings of work for
her fifth win of the season.
Merrimack senior Stacey Arpin added
a pair of hits for the Warriors, while classmate Courtney
Costa added a run. Freshman Emily Cutler added an RBI.
Haight opened up the scoring early
in the first inning as she doubled and drove in Hall to
put the Ravens up 1-0.
Merrimack responded in the top of
the fourth as Costa scored an unearned run to knot the score
1-1.
The Warriors attempted to seal with
win as Mortis pounded a one-out triple in the bottom of
the eighth. Wotton worked out of the jam however, as she
struck out Haven Wynne and Heather Sargent flew out to right
field to end the inning.
Tremblay then knocked in the winning
run after eight scoreless innings to give the Ravens the
2-1 win.
Merrimack pitcher Michelle Ridings
allowed two runs, just one earned, on 11 hits, stuck out
one and walked one in 11 innings of work despite the loss.
