Ravens Split
1 Win and 1 Loss
SMITHFIELD, R.I. ‹ Freshman pitcher
Nicole Keene (Auburn, Maine) pitched a five-hit shutout
in the first game as Bryant split a Northeast-10 Conference
doubleheader against Franklin Pierce Tuesday afternoon at
the Bryant Softball Complex. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 decision
in the opener before the Ravens won an 8-0, five-inning
affair in the nightcap.
Keene scattered five hits in Game
1 and didnıt walk a batter in a pitcherıs duel with the
Ravens Kalene Wotton (Westminster, Mass.).
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth
inning when Kim Michaud (Saint Agatha, Maine) singled
home the game-winning run with one out. The Bulldogs added
an insurance run when Michaud came home on a Raven error.
Franklin Pierce put the tying run
at the plate when Carolyn Hall (Whitman, Mass.)
smacked a one-out double in the top of the seventh, but
Keene retired the next two hitters to give Bryant its first
Northeast-10 Conference win of the season.
The nightcap saw the Ravens explode
for six runs in the first inning off Bulldog starter Jessie
Strout (Litchfield, Maine), stringing together five
consecutive hits, including a three-run triple by
Quinn Tremblay
(Westminster, Mass.). Keene came on in relief for the Bulldogs
and allowed just one earned run through the last four and
a third innings, but Raven pitcher Brittan Hunnington
(Witehall, N.Y.) kept Bryantıs hitters off-balance, allowing
just two hits through five innings.
Bryant finished the twinbill with
a 5-17 overall record and a 1-5 Northeast-10 mark. The Ravens
went to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the NE-10.
