Ravens fall to Bowdoin, 7-2, then
come back to notch 6-0 win over Mount Holyoke

- The Franklin Pierce University
softball team suffered a 7-2
loss to Bowdoin College in their first game of the morning,
but rebounded to notch a 6-0 win over Mount Holyoke at the
2002 Gene Cusic Classic.
Bowdoin jumped out to the early 3-0
lead by the second inning, but the Ravens attempted to close
the gap when Carolyn Hall (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson)
scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the
third.
Bowdoin scored a pair of runs in
the fourth to take a commanding 5-1 lead, but finished off
the Ravens for good when a two-run homer in the fifth inning
put the Bears up 7-1 heading into the seventh.
Hall smacked two-for-four, including
a triple, and scored two runs for the Ravens, while junior
Julie Haight (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill)
recorded an RBI single.
Newcomer Amy Torla (Haverhill,
Mass./Haverhill) struck out three batters, walked
none and allowed five earned runs on seven hits for the
loss.

The Ravens came back
from the early morning loss to secure a 6-0 shutout of Mount
Holyoke College.
Freshman Courtney
Lemoie (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) was outstanding in
her collegiate debut, as she allowed six hits, struck out
six batters and walked one for the win.
Freshman Mary
Reade (Groveland, Mass./Pentuckett Reg.) hit two-for-three,
stole one base and scored a run to lead the Ravens. Haight
went one-for-three, drove in two RBIs and scored a run in
the win.
Mount Holyoke's Carrie
Warner allowed four earned runs on five hits, struck out
three and walked six for the loss.
