Split NE-10 Doubleheader
RINDGE, N.H. (April 29, 2001) - Franklin Pierce University
split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader
with Assumption College this afternoon. FP
picked up an
8-5 win in game one, before Assumption won game two 8-1.
In game one, senior first baseman
Katelyn Kirby (North Adams, Mass./Drury)
batted 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Ravens
offense from the leadoff spot. The Ravens trailed 5-2 entering
the bottom of the sixth, but rallied for six runs in the
frame to take the lead for good. Senior Heather Brouillette
(Monson, Mass./Monson) had the big hit in the frame, a two-run
double to put FP
ahead.
Sophomore Carolyn Hall
(Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hansen) and freshman Jessica
Preite (North Adams, Mass./Greylock) each added
a pair of hits for the Ravens. Junior Shalyn Covey
(San Diego, Calif./Claremont) earned the win (5-7) as she
allowed five runs, four earned, on 11 hits with three strikeouts
in six innings. Freshman Brittan Huntington
(Whitehall, N.Y./Ticonderoga) picked up her third save of
the season as she struck out two batters in pitching a perfect
seventh.
Junior Laurie Del Grego (West
Haven, Conn./West Haven) led Assumption with three hits,
and two runs scored, while freshman Meghan Savage
(Carlisle, Mass./Central Catholic) added three hits and
two RBIs.
Sophomore Kate Donovan (Winsted,
Conn./Gilbert School) suffered the loss in relief (8-14),
yielding four runs, two earned, on four hits in one inning
of work.
In game two, Assumption broke a scoreless
tie in the fourth with a pair of runs and broke the game
open with two in the sixth and four in the top of the seventh
in the 8-1 victory.
Del Grego batted 3-5 with two runs
scored and an RBI, while Savage hit 2-4 with three RBIs
to lead the Greyhounds. Junior Bridget Dean (East
Haddam, Conn./Hale Ray) poked two doubles.
Freshman Melissa Fallon (Salem,
Conn./Salem) earned the win (9-6) as she allowed just one
earned run on three hits with two K’s in the complete-game
effort.
Senior Jannice Pratt
(Kittery, Maine/Traip) drove in FPC’s lone run. Huntington
suffered the loss (4-8), yielding eight runs, seven earned,
on 13 hits with two strikeouts.

(12-24, 5-19 NE-10) wraps up
its season tomorrow when it travels to Manchester to face
New Hampshire College at 3 p.m. Assumption (17-23-1, 11-12-1
NE-10) hosts New Haven on Wednesday.
