Earns Sweep
at Saint Michael’s
COLCHESTER, Vt. (April 19, 2001)
- Franklin Pierce University
snapped a five-game losing streak
as it swept Saint Michael’s College in a Northeast-10 Conference
softball doubleheader at Doc Jacobs Field this afternoon.
The Ravens posted a dramatic 3-2 win in game one, before
posting an 8-4 victory in the nightcap.
Sophomore catcher Julie Haight
(Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O’Neill) batted 2-for-3 and crushed
the gamewinning homerun in the top of the seventh inning
to lead FP
in game one. The Ravens took a 2-0 lead in the
first inning as freshman Lauren Chenausky
(Athol, Mass./Athol)
belted a two-run single.
Saint Michael’s got single runs in
each the second and third innings to knot the score at 2-2.
Junior Shalyn Covey
(San Diego, Calif./Claremont) earned her third win of the
spring (3-4) as she allowed two runs, just one earned, on
four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
In the nightcap, FP
led 3-1 entering
the fifth inning when it exploded for five runs to break
the game open. Sophomore Carolyn Hall (Whitman,
Mass./Whitman-Hansen) hit 4-4 in the game with an RBI, while
senior Katelyn Kirby (North Adams, Mass./Drury)
batted 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Freshman Quinn
Tremblay (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) chipped in
two hits, including a double, and scored a pair of runs.
Freshman Jessica Preite (North Adams, Mass./Greylock)
made her first collegiate appearance in the pitcher’s circle
and earned the win.
FP
(9-15, 4-10 NE-10) returns to
action on Sunday when it travels to Springfield, Mass.,
to face American International College for an NE-10 doubleheader
at noon.
