Mello Named NE-10
Goalkeeper of the Week
Londonderry, N.H., native earns third weekly honor
of the season (ninth career)

RINDGE, N.H. (October 2, 2006) – Franklin Pierce junior Jenna Mello (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week in women’s soccer by the Conference office today.

Mello, who earns the weekly honor for the third time this season (ninth career), stopped all six shots on goal she faced to preserve a pair of 1-0 victories over regionally-ranked opponents in a 2-0 week for Franklin Pierce. She had four saves (three second half) in Tuesday’s key 1-0 victory over Merrimack College, ranked 18th in last week’s NSCAA/adidas Division II poll and third regionally. Mello turned aside two shots (both second half) in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University, ranked fifth in the New England region.

Mello has played all 918:32 of Franklin Pierce’s minutes in goal so far this fall and has posted a 0.78 goals against average (3rd NE-10) and .830 save percentage (4th) to go with five shutouts (2nd). She has turned in three-straight shutouts and has not conceded a goal over the Ravens last 333:05 of action.

Mello has run her career shutout total to 20 with her two clean sheets last week – good for fourth in program history. In 43 career matches (3,845:22 minutes), Mello has posted a 0.70 goals against average (4th in program history) and .801 save percentage (6th), posting a career record of 35-4-3. Her 121 career saves rank third in program history.

Franklin Pierce (8-2-0, 7-2-0 NE-10), among teams receiving votes in last week’s NSCAA/adidas Division II poll and ranked fourth in the region, is back in action on Wednesday when it visits Le Moyne College (7-3-0, 6-3-0 NE-10 & 5-0-0 at home) at 4 p.m. The Ravens do not return to Sodexho Field until Saturday, October 14, when they host 17th-ranked UMass Lowell in a key NE-10 clash at 2 p.m.
