#22 Franklin Pierce
Rebounds Against Bryant, 3-1

Demoner is hat trick hero in Ravens debut

RINDGE, N.H. (September 9, 2006) – Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 22 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, rebounded from back-to-back losses for the first time in 13 years with a 3-1 victory over Bryant University, among teams receiving votes nationally, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action at Sodexho Field this afternoon.

Junior midfielder Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) netted a second-half hat trick to lift Franklin Pierce to victory in her Ravens debut. Her three goals erased a halftime deficit for the third-straight match and halted a long scoring drought in the process.

Demoner leveled the match when she took a through ball from sophomore Ann Foley (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) and fired a high shot from 28-yards in the left channel just under the crossbar at 65:06. The goal snapped a scoreless streak of 288:23 for the Ravens dating back to their second goal in a 2-0 season-opening victory over Holy Family University.

Demoner added the match-winner just 2:14 later on a nice through ball from freshman Shona Franklin (Leicester, England), which sent her in one-on-one with Bryant freshman goalkeeper Katie Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), depositing the ball into the lower right corner. Demoner capped her successful bow with an insurance goal in the 80th minute. She collected a loose ball off a Bryant defender and took two steps before firing again into the lower right corner.

Bryant opened the scoring in the 41st minute when a square ball from the left side by freshman Molly Wallace (East Sandwich, Mass./East Sandwich) connected with senior Casey Grange (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) for a drive that caromed off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net.

Junior goalkeeper Jenna Mello (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) finished with three saves (two second half) to preserve the victory for Franklin Pierce, which finished with an 11-8 advantage in shots (8-4 second half). Mitchell registered six stops in goal for the Bulldogs (four second half).

Franklin Pierce (2-2, 1-2 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when it visits Assumption College for a key NE-10 match at 7 p.m. The Ravens are back home next Saturday when they host Saint Anselm College at 1p.m. Bryant (4-3, 2-2 NE-10) hosts Bentley College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
