Ravens erase early deficit behind five points from Hislop, Foley nets first two collegiate goals

COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 7, 2005) – Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 3 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, erased an early deficit before cruising to a 4-1 victory over Saint Michael’s College in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action at Duffy Field this afternoon.

Senior All-American Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland), the reigning NE-10 Player of the Year, led Franklin Pierce with two goals and an assist for five points. Freshman Ann Foley (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) weighed in by netting the first two goals of her collegiate career to cap the Ravens scoring. Sophomore Taryn Welker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) dished two assists.

Saint Michael’s opened the scoring just 10:42 into the match when freshman Kelley Ruch (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock) fired a right-footed shot that beat Ravens junior goalkeeper Linnea Authier (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) to the right side.

Sophomore Taryn Welker dished two assists on the night.

The Ravens answered as both of Hislop’s goals came in a two-minute span to reverse the advantage. She took a feed from Welker and equalized at 20:39 with a left-footed shot. 1:47 later, Hislop took a pass from senior Elizabeth Allen (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) and slotted a low shot that deflected off Saint Michael’s sophomore goalkeeper Molly Cole (Dover, N.H./Dover) in the 23rd minute.

Foley rounded out the first half scoring when she scored from point blank range in the 40th minute, assisted by Welker, for the first collegiate marker. Foley rounded out the scoring 6:38 into the second half, assisted by Hislop, with a left-footed shot.

Cole finished with five saves in first half action for Saint Michael’s, while sophomore Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) collected four stops in the second half. Authier made one save in goal for the Ravens, who out-shot the Purple Knights by an 18-5 margin.
