Hislop, Hughes lead the way for Ravens 
in fourth-straight win

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 1, 2005) – Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 9 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, claimed its fourth-straight victory with a 3-0 decision at Southern New Hampshire University, ranked ninth in the New England Region, at Larkin Field tonight.

            Franklin Pierce’s Republic of Ireland international and senior All-America duo of Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland) and Sonya Hughes (Balbriggan, Ireland) led the Ravens as Hislop finished with a goal and assist, while Hughes dished two assists. Hislop’s three points draw her within one of becoming just the second player in program history to notch 200 career points. The reigning NE-10 Player of the Year has now totaled 78 goals (2^nd all-time) and 43 assists (6^th) for 199 points (2^nd) in 56 career matches (3.55 ppm) over three seasons with the Ravens.

Hughes set up the only goal Franklin Pierce would need with just 30-seconds left in the opening half as her through ball connected with freshman Ann Foley (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) for a high shot from 25-yards.

            Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Mello (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) made three saves to preserve the tenth shutout of her career (third of the season). Mello made a diving stop on a shot from SNHU sophomore Lori Robinson (Bow, N.H./Bow) midway through the first half to keep the match scoreless.

            Hughes connected with Hislop with a lead pass down the left flank for a low shot from 15-yards 6:20 into the second half. Junior back Alex Scavo (Toronto, Ontario/Brother Andre) rounded out the scoring when she redirected a Hislop free kick at 67:11.

            SNHU sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Visconti (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) finished with one save as the Ravens out-shot the Penmen, 13-7 (9-4 second half).

            Franklin Pierce (8-1-1, 6-1-1 NE-10) returns home to host Le Moyne College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Southern New Hampshire University (4-6-2, 2-4-2 NE-10) visits Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
