Hislop nets ninth career hat trick to
lead Ravens to first win of the season

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (September 3, 2005) – Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 5 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II preseason coaches poll, collected its first win of the season with a 4-0 victory over Philadelphia University on day one of the Holy Family Soccer Classic this afternoon.

Senior All-American Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland), the 2004 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, netted the ninth hat trick of her Franklin Pierce career, with all of her goals coming in the first 52 minutes of the match. The three goals give her 65 for her three-year career at the College, good enough to move into fifth place on the program’s career list. Her 168 career points are now tied for fourth all-time with former teammate Meghan Welcome.

In her first start of the season, junior Linnea Authier notched her sixth career shutout.

Junior goalkeeper Linnea Authier (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) turned aside three shots in posting the sixth shutout of her career in her first appearance of the season. Franklin Pierce out-shot Philadelphia 7-3, including 7-1 over the final 45 minutes.

The Ravens were handed the only goal they would need in the sixth minute, when a Rams defender steered the ball into their own net.

Hislop took over from there, scoring an unassisted goal in the 11th minute, before rounding out the first half scoring, assisted by sophomore Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic), when she beat Philadelphia freshman goalkeeper Sara Hall (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) to the left side in the 25th.

Hislop rounded out the scoring less than ten minutes into the second half, off a feed from junior Leanne Bowler (Clonalvy, Ireland) in the 52nd minute.

Hall finished with six saves in goal for the Rams.

Franklin Pierce (1-0-1, 0-0-1 NE-10) rounds out the event tomorrow against host Holy Family University at 11 a.m. Philadelphia (1-3) faces UMass Lowell tomorrow at 1 p.m.
