Ravens collect fifth-straight shutout in rematch 
of ’03 regional final

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (October 18, 2004) – Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 6 in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, collected its fifth-straight shutout in a 2-0 victory over the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action at the Clifton Park Commons this afternoon.

            Franklin Pierce got unassisted goals in each half within a span of 12 minutes sandwiched around halftime to post the victory. The Ravens have not yielded a goal since No. 21 Merrimack College netted a late match-winner on September 30.            

Senior All-American Meghan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) netted what proved to be the match-winner in the 37^th minute when she tipped in a loose ball at the doorstep. Junior All-American Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland) added an insurance marker 3:40 into the second half when she flicked the ball in from 12-yards. The goal was her 50^th in 37 career matches at Franklin Pierce.

            Sophomore Linnea Authier (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and freshman Jenna Mello (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) each registered three saves while playing a half each in the match to preserve the team’s eighth shutout of the season.

            Saint Rose junior Kat Marasia (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) posted one stop in 58-minutes of action before yielding to freshman Lauren Steinberg (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay), who did not register a stop over the final 32 minutes.

            Shots were even in the match, 9-9, with the Golden Knights putting six shots on goal compared to three for Franklin Pierce.

            Franklin Pierce (12-1, 10-1 NE-10) continues a five-match stretch in a span of ten days on Wednesday at Bentley College at 3 p.m. Saint Rose (9-3-2, 6-3-2 NE-10) hosts UMass Lowell on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
