Hislop earns women’s soccer Player of the Week
Scavo named Freshman of the Week

RINDGE, N.H. (September 8, 2003) – Two members of the Franklin Pierce women’s soccer team, ranked No. 3 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference for their efforts in a season-opening 2-0 week.

            Sophomore forward Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland) was named the NE-10’s Player of the Week, while freshman forward Alex Scavo (Markham, Ontario/Brother Andre) was selected as the Conference ‘s Freshman of the Week.

            Hislop, who earns her first Player of the Week honor, totaled six points on two goals and two assists in her first week in a Ravens uniform since transferring from NAIA Virginia Intermont College. She opened the season with a goal to help lead Franklin Pierce past Saint Michael’s on Thursday. Hislop followed that with a four-point game (all first half) at UMass Lowell on Saturday, netting a goal and dishing two assists.

            Hislop is tied for third among Conference scoring leaders with teammate Meghan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) with six points and her two assists rank fourth among Conference leaders.            


Freshman Alex Scavo was named the NE-10's Freshman of the Week on Monday.

Scavo earns her first Freshman of the Week award after making a splash in her debut week for the Ravens by totaling three points on a goal and assist. She netted her first collegiate goal in the Ravens season-opening win at Saint Michael’s, then dished her first career assist in Saturday’s match at UMass Lowell.

            Franklin Pierce (2-0, 2-0 NE-10) has a busy week ahead of it as it opens its home schedule on Wednesday afternoon against No. 14 Southern Connecticut State University at 3:30 p.m. From there the Ravens will embark upon a trip to Dallas, Texas, where they will face No. 16 Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday at 5 p.m., before rounding out the trip on Sunday against Angelo State University at Noon.
