#6 Franklin Pierce Fires
Past Stonehill, 10-1

Hislop enjoys record-breaking afternoon
to lead Ravens offense

RINDGE, N.H. (September 24, 2003) – Sophomore forward Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland) set a program record with 13 points to lead No. 6-ranked Franklin Pierce to a 10-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action at Crystal Field this afternoon.

Hislop matched a program record with five goals and also dished three assists to account for her record-setting point total. The 13 points surpassed the previous mark set by three-time All-American Pauliina Miettinen, who totaled 12 points in an 11-0 victory over the University at Albany on September 8, 1998. Hislop’s five goals matched the record set by 1992 NSCAA Player of the Year Ewa Bergsten against Bentley in 1992 and matched three times prior to today, including twice by Miettinen – the last time in an 11-0 triumph at the University of Bridgeport on September 26, 1998.

Hislop netted the first five goals of the match over a 24-minute span around the intermission. She put the Ravens ahead in the 29th minute when she collected a pass from classmate Sonya Hughes (Balbriggan, Ireland) and fired a shot from the top of the box into the lower left corner of the net.

Junior Laura King registered the first multi-goal match of her career with pair of markers today.

Hislop struck again less than five minutes later when she knocked in a rebound of an Alex Scavo (Markham, Ontario/Brother Andre) shot off the post into a wide open net from the doorstep. She rounded out the first half scoring with an unassisted tally on a fast break in which she broke in one-on-one with Stonehill senior goalkeeper Meaghan Doherty (Milton, Mass./Milton) and slid a shot into the lower left corner of the net at 35:05.

Hislop rounded out her record matching goal out put with a pair of strikes in the opening seven minutes of the second half. The first, at 49:26, was assisted by junior Martta Makila (Vantaa, Finland), with the second coming off a Hughes feed in the 53rd minute.

Junior back Laura King (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) chipped in two goals for the Ravens, while Makila finished with a goal and assist. Junior All-American Meghan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) and freshman Hanne Nordberg (Sarpsborg, Norway) each netted goals. For Nordberg it was the first of her career and was scored in the 73rd minute.

Junior Martta Makila finished with three points, including her first goal of the season.

Stonehill struck for its lone goal in the 64th minute when junior Carolyn Cooney (Flemington, N.J./Hunterton Central) headed in a cross from sophomore Meg Macumber (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy).

Doherty finished with seven saves for Stonehill in 90 minutes in goal. Senior Aase Kibsgaard (Korgen, Norway) played 62:24 shutout minutes with two saves.

Franklin Pierce, which is now unbeaten in 91-consecutive home matches against New England region opponents, out shot Stonehill by a 34-5 margin for the match.

Franklin Pierce (7-1, 6-0 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it visits American International College at 4 p.m. Stonehill (4-5, 1-5 NE-10) hosts No. 10 Merrimack College on Saturday at noon.
