Ravens return to action and win column with road Conference victory

WALTHAM, Mass. (October 17, 2002) - Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 4 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, returned to action for the first time in eight days and claimed its first win in 12 days with a 2-1 victory over Bentley College, ranked fifth in the New England region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at the Bentley College Soccer Complex.

Franklin Pierce, ranked first in New England, struck early, scoring on its first shot of the match at the 11:01-mark. Sophomore Laura King (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) chipped a pass that sent senior Anumari Ylesmaki (Vantaa, Finland) in one-on-one with Bentley goalkeeper Erin Fahey. Ylesmaki deposited a low shot past Fahey.

Sophomore Meg Welcome netted a team-best fifth game winning goal of the season to lift the Ravens past Bentley

The Ravens got some needed insurance midway through the second half when leading scorer Meghan Welcome (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) netted her team-leading 13th goal of the season after collecting a pass from senior Kamille Rosenfalck (Borup, Denmark) in the 68th minute. The marker also proved to be Welcome's team-best fifth game winning goal of the season.

Bentley closed the gap just 4:05 later as a cross from sophomore Lisa Tisbert from the right side found classmate Kim Mendonca for a one-timed shot past Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Aase Kibsgaard (Korgen, Norway) at the 71:20-mark.

Kibsgaard finished the match with four saves to preserve the Ravens 10th victory of the season, while Fahey posted five stops.

Franklin Pierce (10-0-2, 9-0-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Syracuse, N.Y., for a match with Le Moyne College, ranked sixth in the region, at noon. Bentley (7-4-2, 6-4-2 NE-10) travels to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday.
