Six Lady
Ravens Earn All-New England Status
Keeldar heads list of four first team
All-Region honorees
RINDGE, N.H. (December
6, 2001) - Six members of the Franklin Pierce University
women’s soccer team earned a spot on the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II All-New
England Region team. The Ravens placed four players on the
first team, with two members earning second team status.
Senior Jen Petronis
(Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
juniors Patricia Keeldar (Amsterdam, Holland/Ter Leede),
Angela Verdoes (Katwijk Aan Zee, Holland/Ter Leede)
and Anumari Ylesmaki (Vantaa, Finland/Makelanrinne)
were all voted to the first team and are now eligible for
NSCAA Division II All-America status.
Juniors Nicole
Cheadle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and
Kamille Rosenfalck (Copenhagen, Denmark/Frederiksberg Boldklub)
were voted to the second team.
Petronis
|
Petronis, a midfielder,
earns her third-straight All-New England honor after totaling
20 points with eight goals (two gamewinners) and four assists
this fall for the Ravens. A four-time All-Conference selection
in her career at FPC, Petronis totaled 99 career points,
good for seventh in school history. Her 49 career assists
ranks fourth all-time and her 25 career goals is good for
14th in FP
history. A four-year starter, Petronis played
in 88 of a possible 90 matches during her career at Franklin
Pierce.
Keeldar
|
Keeldar, a forward,
earns her first All-Region honor after leading the Northeast-10
Conference with 72 points and 31 goals (seven gamewinners)
to go along with ten assists this season. The NE-10 Player
of the Year also claimed first team All-Conference accolades
this spring. A five-time NE-10 Player of the Week, Keeldar
recorded three hat tricks and netted a season-high four
markers in a 9-0 win at Southern New Hampshire on September
13. She also earned a spot on the NCAA Division II Final
Four All-Tournament team last week.
Verdoes
|
Verdoes, a midfielder,
is named to the All-New England team for the second time
in her career after finishing tied for second in the Conference
with 47 points. Her 15 assists ranked second in the NE-10
and she also netted 16 goals (four gamewinners). A first
team All-NE-10 pick, Verdoes also earned All-Region status
along with New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the
Year honors in 1999. She missed all but two matches in 2000
after a preseason knee injury.
Ylesmaki

Ylesmaki, a back,
earns All-New England status for the first time in her three-year
career at the College after also claiming NE-10 Defensive
Player of the Year honors and All-Conference accolades for
the first time this fall. A premier stopper, Ylesmaki has
also shown an offensive flair as evidenced by her 18 points
this season with five goals and eight assists. Her 40 career
points currently ranks 22nd in school history - second all-time
among FP
defenders. Ylesmaki backboned an FP
defense that
yielded just 0.91 goals per game with 11 shutouts this season,
limiting opponents to a mere 5.3 shots per match.
Cheadle
|
Cheadle, a back, earns
All-New England accolades for the second-straight season.
Cheadle, a first team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection
this fall, played a large role in a Ravens defense that
yielded just 0.91 goals per game with 11 shutouts and limited
opponents to 5.3 shots per match. She also chipped in with
two goals and an assist for five points this season.
Rosenfalck
|
Rosenfalck, a midfielder,
earned All-New England honors for the first time in her
career after being named to the All-Northeast-10 Conference
second team earlier this year. Rosenfalck totaled 15 points
with three goals and nine assists in her first season with
the Ravens and was named to the NCAA Division II Final Four
All-Tournament team last week.
The Franklin Pierce University
women’s soccer team wrapped up its 2001 season with
a 22-1 record and ranked No. 3 in the final NSCAA Division
II poll. The Ravens 22 wins set a school record and matched
the Division II mark. FP
advanced to the NCAA Final Four
for a record tenth-straight season, but had its quest for
a record sixth National Championship halted in the semifinals.
