RINDGE, N.H. (September
20, 2000) - Andrea Caesar (Visby, Sweden) and
Minna Mustonen (Helsinki, Finland) had two goals
and an assist each Wednesday as the defending
NCAA Division II
champion Franklin Pierce University
women's soccer
team beat St. Anselm, 6-0,in a Northeast-10
Conference match.
The Ravens (4-0, 2-0
NE-10) are ranked first nationally
and have not yielded a goal in four matches.
They have outscored their opponents by a 32-0
margin.
Nicole Cheadle (West
Chester, Pa.) scored the game-winner for the
Ravens in the 31st minute when she headed in
a crossing pass from Jenny Petronis (Burnt Hills,
N.Y.). Caesar made it 2-0 just 38 seconds before
the half when she beat the St. Anselm defense
to a loose ball in front of the goal.
The Ravens broke the
game open scoring twice in a four-minute span
in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
Caesar got the first in the 50th minute, heading
in a corner kick by Petronis, and Mustonen got
the second on a header off a Caesar cross.
First-year sophomore
Jantine Slootweg (Valkenburg, Holland) got her
first collegiate goal in the 66th minute, while
Mustonen scored her team-high seventh goal just
55 seconds later on a great individual effort
as she was being pulled down in the 18-yard
box.
Mustonen now has seven
goals and 19 points and has moved up to fifth
on the FP
all-time scoring list with 53 goals
and 130 points in less than three years.
St. Anselm (1-4, 1-4
NE-10) did not get its first shot until 27 minutes
had elapsed. The Ravens held considerable edges
in shots (32-4) and corner kicks (16-0).
Kim Higgins (Rochester,
N.Y.) needed to make just two saves to record
her second shutout of the season.
The Ravens are back
in action Saturday when they host Assumption
at 3 p.m. St. Anselm plays again Sunday when
its host St. Rose.
