In fact it was a penalty kick which put Franklin Pierce on the board first as Demoner converted her attempt at 27-minutes even for her NE-10 leading 12th goal of the season. The Ravens have now scored first in ten of 11 matches this fall, with the lone exception their 0-0 draw with No. 11 College of Saint Rose on September 1.
Franklin Pierce doubled its lead just 1:09 into the second half with Johnson’s third goal of the season as she took a pass from sophomore Mackenzie Bulych (Regina Saskatchewan) and fired in what would prove to be the match-winner from the top of the 18. The Ravens added an insurance goal in the 76th minute with Johansson netting her 11th goal of the season, assisted by senior Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) and junior Kristen Cilley (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown).
SNHU avoided the shutout when it was awarded a penalty kick in the closing minutes. Senior Laurie Boland (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) converted the attempt with just 2:36 left in regulation.
Franklin Pierce (8-1-2, 6-1-2 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Le Moyne College, ranked sixth in the New England Region, at 4 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (5-7-1, 3-5-0 NE-10) visits Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
