Saint Michael’s scored the first five goals of the afternoon to take a 5-0 lead 9:17 into the first half, with five different Purple Knights getting on the scoreboard. Franklin Pierce scored three of the next four goals, with Stamets, Baillargeon and Stille each finding the net once, to shrink the deficit to three near the midway point of the first half, but Saint Michael’s scored seven of the final eight goals of the opening frame to take a 13-4 advantage into the intermission.
The Purple Knights continued to control possession for much of the second half, scoring 10 goals to Franklin Pierce’s two to account for the final score.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) made six saves on 12 shots over the first 49:31 of play to earn her fifth victory of the season. Freshman Chaniece Franklyn (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) turned away 9-of-32 chances for Franklin Pierce to take the loss.
Franklin Pierce (1-5, 0-4 NE-10) continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday, as the Ravens step out of conference play against Keene State College beginning at 6 p.m. Saint Michael’s (5-1, 3-0 NE-10) wraps up a three-game road trip on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Saint Anselm College.
