Franklin Pierce Upended By Saint Michael’s, 18-2
Palazzo and Pelley combine for 15 points to lead Purple Knights

RINDGE, N.H. (April 19, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce Women’s Lacrosse team suffered a tough 18-2 loss to Saint Michael’s College in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening at Sodexho Field. The Purple Knights scored the first eight goals of the match and posted 13 goals in the first half to register their eighth victory of the season.  

Saint Michael senior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) and freshman Amanda Pelley (Mashpee, Mass./Falmouth) combined to total 15 points to lead the Purple Knights. Palazzo tallied a game-high eight points, on four goals and fours assists, while Pelley notched seven points, recording four scores and adding three helpers. Junior Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Drummer Academy) chipped in with three points on one goal and two assists.  

Franklin Pierce posted goals in each half as freshmen Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) and Kayleigh Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) led the Ravens offense with one goal apiece. Savini notched the lone Raven goal in the first half while Jaksina added another Raven score with 23:22 remaining in the second half.

Saint Michael’s out-shot Franklin Pierce 33-15 and held a 23-18 advantage in groundballs. Purple Knight goaltender, sophomore Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) picked up the victory, stopping ten shots in net, while Raven junior goaltender Erin Hopkins (Pen Yan, N.Y./Pen Yan) made 11 saves despite the loss.

Franklin Pierce (0-11, 0-9 NE-10) will be in action again on Friday as it hosts No. 2 ranked L.I.U. C.W. Post at 6 p.m. in its final regular season home game. Saint Michael’s College (8-3, 5-2 NE-10) hosts No. 3 ranked Stonehill College on Saturday for a match starting at 12 p.m.
