Merrimack Shoots Past Franklin Pierce, 20-2
Kownacki leads Warriors past Ravens with a game-high six points

RINDGE, N.H. (April 6, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse team suffered a tough 20-2 loss to Merrimack College in Northeast-10 action this evening at Sodexho Field. The Warriors out-shot the Ravens 42-7 and took advantage of 16 Franklin Pierce turnovers to pick the victory.

            Merrimack used a balance attack to earn its sixth victory of the season, as eight Warriors notched goals. Sophomore Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn./Orange) led all scorers, totaling a game-high six points on five goals and one assist. Senior Alison Colarusso (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) and freshman Jennifer Fox (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) were also solid for the Warriors as the two combined for six goals, each scoring three apiece.

Franklin Pierce junior Nicole McKinnon (Northfield, N.H./Winnisquam) and senior April Silva (E. Falmouth, Mass./Sacred Heart University) each registered one goal apiece to lead the Raven attack. McKinnon netted her second goal of the season just two minutes into the match, while Silva tallied her third goal of the season with 3:58 remaining in the first half.

Merrimack College posted a 9-2 lead heading into halftime and exploded for 11 more goals in the second half. Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Erin Hopkins (Pen Yan, N.Y./Pen Yan Academy) recorded 17 saves in net, while Merrimack freshman goalkeeper Gina Sansome (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) stopped four shots to earn the victory.

Franklin Pierce (0-6, 0-3 NE-10) will be in action again on Saturday as it travels to Southern New Hampshire University for a game at 1 p.m. Merrimack College (6-1, 5-1 NE-10) will host Assumption College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
